My Barry M Nail Paint Collection

I appear to be building up quite a stash....

I couldn't decide how I wanted to photograph them so I did them in a number of ways then got frustrated that they didn't look how I wanted them to... so Stew stepped in with a tripod and helped me out!

hahahaa!!

Anyway, onto the collection!

Left to right on the bottom picture:
273 Rasberry, 296 Coral, 290 Spring Green, an old 290 that is a Pale Green, 304 Mint Green, 291 Cobalt Blue, 294 Cyan Blue, 306 Pale Blue (or blueberry ice cream), 295 Turquoise, 161 Viva Purple, 293 Grey, 303 Bright Purple, 272 Shocking Pink, 302 Fuschia, 305 Pink flamingo, 279 Bright Pink, 308 Pale Purple (or berry ice cream), 309 Pale Pink (or strawberry ice cream), 264 Pink irridescent glitter, 244 Holgraphic glitter, and 54 3-in-1 Clear base coat top coat and nail hardener!

Wowza!! Didn't actually realise I had quite so many until I got them out of the box! Grand total of 21 :| haha!!

Are there any amazing colours that I'm currently missing from my little army? Tell me about them in the comments and I'll buy them straight away!

Also if there are any polishes here that you would like to see swatches of, please let me know! I'm happy to do them and post them here for you :)

Rimmel 3 looks mascara: Day 1 Face and Outfit!

Over the next 3 days I'm going to be reviewing Rimmels new '3 looks' mascara. It is apparantly an 'adjustable volume' mascara and looks like this:

To be honest, I HATE the packaging. It looks a bit crap, and stumpy and it doesn't really 'work' properly, as you can see, you twist each end of the actual tube round to the number 1, 2 or 3 depending on which look you want. This leads to me twisting it back down again whilst im actually trying to use it and its really annoying! I paid a fiver for this because it was on offer at Asda, I think the full retail price will be £7 or £8 :)

Rimmel claim that if you 'turn to 1' you can have up to 3x more volume in your lashes... lets see shall we!

My eyelashes certainly look better than they do with no mascara and this is great for a natural 'everyday' look, I'm most curious to see if the look actually changes tomorrow, or if this mascara is a bit of a gimmick!!

Face: nars sheer glow, no 7 translucent powder, natural collection bronzing pearls, maybelline mousse blush in 04 mauve, sleek highlight from the contour kit :)
Eyes: nothing but a bit of mac dazzlelight as a highlight then woodwinked all over the lid and buffed out.
Lips: Rimell lipstick in 006 pink blush and mac cremesheen glass in fashion scoop.

Aaaaand finally, my rainy day outfit! Its pouring it down again today but I didn't want to be dressed all in 'crap day' colours so I teamed a black jersey from topshop with a bright 'pop' jumper from H+M, threw on leggings, rocket dog boots and a black leather jacket and off I went!!

I've got my scarf in my hand to demonstrate the fact i'll be wearing it ;) aha!

Jewelery:
Teacup necklace (my housemate put it on a longer chain for me) from accessorize: about £8 i think
Tiffany bracelet from my daddy :)
My 'everyday' silver sekonda watch and a silver and diamond bangle my mum got me for my 18th birthday ♥
No earrings! dunno why....

Are you enjoying my outfit posts or should I not bother? I'm not too sure...

Exam face and outfit! :)

The other day I had an Economics exam, it was horrendous and I don't wish to speak of it! However, I do wish to show you all my nice, relaxed make-up and outfit :)

Make-up:

^no idea what that splodge in the bottom left is!

Face: Nars sheer glow, Nars penny lane cream blush, mac msf natural
Eyes: mac dazzlelight as highlight, shimmertime pigment all over the lid and pulled up to the brow bone a bit, mac tempting verrrrrry lightly in the outer corner, mac studio fix lash on my lashes :)
Lips: vaseline rosy lips

Outfit:

then I found the self-timer.....

^i look like such a willy here! haha!

Top: you cant see it but its a plain black vest! haha! topshop :) £6
Skirt: primark £4!!!
Leggings: Dorothy perkins £12
Jumper: new look, meant to be very baggy! £20
Shoes: primark £8

I'm also wearing a big chunky charm necklace that was £3 from primark, my tiffany bracelet and a white nixon :)

please excuse the terrible outfit photos, bad lighting and I was literally dashing out of the door for my exam!!!!

I think its nice to give everyone a peep at me on a 'can't really be bothered - too stressed' day :) I'm a huge fan of baggy jumpers for exams and things because you can snuggle up in them and get comfy! also, how lush is that skirt for £4!!!! :)

Gradual Tan comparison and reviews - Garnier vs Dove!

Being the incredibly vain individual that I am, I simply can't cope with being pale in the summer! I'm about as tanned as a sheet of A4 paper and if I go in the sun I burn almost instantly, a running joke amongst friends is that I'm secretly a red head because of how pale I am!! (I'm not secretly a red head btw!)

I have literally tried everything, sunbeds (at the age of 15 - awful I know!), spray tans, fake tan, gradual tan, instant wash off tan... everything! So, as its getting a bit warmer (well it was, it poured it down today!) I have started my 'get ready for summer' mission! Generally I only use gradual tanners between April and June, in June I'll start going for regular spray tans or using non-gradual fake tan at home! With this in mind I ventured out and bought a couple from Asda, I've used each one for a week and I'm going to compare them and review them for you!

First up: Garnier Skin Naturals: Summer Body moiturising lotion - 'light'

I've no idea why the bottle looks so full in the picture! I've used loads! anyway...

Packaging and claims: Garnier claims that this lotion gradually builds a natural looking sun-kissed tan and also provides 12 hour moisturisation. It also boasts a 'summer fresh fragrance' and claims to 'work in harmony with your skin tone'. The packing is simple but effective, a nice golden-yellowy colour and I've found that the product doesn't dry and clump round the lid :)

Smell: Although this smells faintly of citrus, it certainly isn't a 'summer fresh frangrance'. To put it simply, it stinks, like all fake tan does!

Application: I used this every other day for a week and applied it with latex gloves on all over my body (and got stew to do my back) and also onto my face. It applys smoothly and evenly and a little goes quite a long way. I did however, find that it doesn't seem to dry, I put this on before bed and I was still 'sticky' in the morning, totally gross!!

Price: This is currently on offer for £2 in Asda but it retails at around a fiver :)

Development/colour: Generally this seems to take an extremely long time to build any colour at all, furthermore, when it did start to 'darken me up' it went patchy and just looked a bit weird. I'm sure it wasn't my application as I've used gradual tanners so much before! This is a serious negative for me, patchy tan is not good.

Overall opinion: Smells slightly better than a normal fake tan but takes forever to dry, develops incredibly slowly, and goes patchy :/ not great really.

Out of 10: I'd probably give this a 3 or 4...

Secondly: Dove Summer Glow and Soft Shimmer: beauty body lotion - 'Fair to medium skin'

Packaging and claims: Typical dove packaging, cute and effective. This is a moisturiser with subtle self-tanners and light reflecting particles that 'gradually builds a light summer tan'. Dove claim that this will give you a luminous, sun-kissed look'.

Smell: Awful! Typical fake tan smell, all of my housemates moaned for ages that the house stank!

Application: I applied this every other day for a week in exactly the same way as the garnier tanner. It absorbs into the skin quickly and easily and I was able to get dressed (in jeans and a fitted top, to go out for dinner) after around 20 minutes :) However unlike the garnier tanner, this product doesn't go very far and you have to slap it on!

Price: This is currently on offer in Asda for £3 and it normally retails for about a fiver.

Development/colour: I immediately noticed a difference in colour after the first application and it built up really really well over the course of a week! It looked absolutely fantastic and was completely even, plus the 'glittery' bits in it meant that my skin looked glossy, healthy and glowing when I went out in the sun! I was absolutely chuffed with the colour and it took a while to completely fade, meaning it wasn't a drastic pale-to-tan-to-pale situation!

Overall opinion: Its going to take a damn good gradual tanner to beat this little beast! It makes me look healthier, more tanned and keeps my skin baby soft for well over 24 hours after using it! Its incredibly easy to apply and dries super quickly! The only downside to this product is the smell, but who cares, the tan it gives you is divine!

Out of 10: 9 - it stinks! ;)

I'm also going to be trying Johnsons gradual tanner so look out for a review on that soon! Do you use gradual tanners? Which one is your favourite?

Economics Revision?

I really don't want to do it!

I can't wait until the 18th May when all of my exams are over, all of my assignments are in.. and I can really, really focus on this blog!!

At the moment I feel like this:

And I'd quite like to feel like this:

hahaha!

xo

An Aussome start to the day!

Yesterday I got home from doing a wee bit of shopping to find a laaaavely big parcel waiting for me!! Knowing what it was i immediately ripped it open to find this:

A 'Miracle Moist' tribe bag and a note from Aussie (which I suspect was penned by the gorgeous Emma)

A while back, stage one of the Angel Project came to an end and I was gutted, being an Aussie Angel is fantastic! There is a huge variety of girls, from fashion, to beauty to nail bloggers, we come from all over the country, and we all have one thing in common - we lust over gorgeous, shiney, sweet smelling hair!

So when I was asked if I would like to be included in stage 2, I jumped at the chance! More yummy hair action? Yes Please!!!

What was inside the wash bag?

Some miracle moist badges so that i can represent my tribe at all times!
Aussie miracle moist shampoo and conditioner, and a little bottle of 3 minute miracle reconstructor - one of my holy grail products since I discovered bleach at the ages of 13!
A dinky aussie mirror which now lives in my make-up bag!
Some teeny weeny little brushes - the purple one now lives in my make-up bag - the gold is going to live in stews car when I ge the chance to put it in there!

oh and there was also a twirl bar but errr.... well I ate it immediately :)

I'm so excited about my miracle moist tribe party in birmingham!!

Who's gonns be there?

xo

ps - massive thanks to those over at 1000heads for these parcels! They're lush!

Good customer service?

As you all know, I e-mailled the Academy of Freelance Make-up the other day to complain about the way my brushes were sent in the post. I basically said that a jiffy bag wasn't good enough and with the brushes costing over £100 once I had paid postage, I would expect them to come via courier, or at least Special Delivery!

Here is the response I received:

Hi Catherine,
Many thanks for your email.
The shipping method chosen allows us to keep the cost to the customer to a minimum as the shipping cost is passed on to the customer. Our customers overwhelmingly want the minimum cost possible associated with their order. On this basis, we will continue to deliver to our custimer's requirements.
Kind Regards,
The AOFM team.

^spot the typo. how professional.

Customers requirements? I think the comments on my Blog showing how they had been posted shows that a jiffy bag and permanent marker aren't the requirments of most make-up artists/women who are paying good money for the brushes!!

Furthermore, £4.50 is a LOT of money to charge for standard first class delivery!!

Anyway, some of you asked to see the response when I got it, so there it is!!

Also I finally received an e-mail back from Benito Brow Bar - they're giving me a full refund for both treatments :) Maybe I'm letting them off lightly considering they infected me, but I'm just happy to be getting my money back!

Playing in Wonderland...

I finally played around with my Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland book of shadows the other day and came up with this look for work...

Please excuse the photos, my camera has really been playing me up recently, I think I'm going to completely format it because the settings have all gone scew-whiff!!

Face: NARS Sheer Glow mixed with Revlon photoready, mac msf natural, rimmel recover concealer, mac cremeblend blush in so sweet, so easy and illamasqua cream blush in lies.
Eyes: 'white rabbit' as a highlight and on the inner corner, 'drink me eat me' and 'muchness' on the main part of the lid, then 'mad hatter' and 'jabberwocky' on the outer corner :) rimmel glam eyes black liquid eyeliner and urban decay liner in zero on the lower lashes and waterline, mac studio fix mascara in black on my lashes :)

My lashes are Ardell Demi lashes (I think the number is 108) - these are really lightweight and easy to apply but aren't quite long enough on the inner corners for me eyes!

Lips: naked!! I wore mac lipstick in creme cup and cremesheen glass in fashion scoop when I got to work though!

I adore all of the colours in the book of shadows and can't wait to wear 'underland' 'absolem' and 'queen' :) I love all of the colours and there are so many I don't know which combination to try next!!

xo

A little pick me up...

Today I had quite an important hospital appointment, I'm known for working myself up and getting incredibly nervous before these things so this morning I popped into town with Verity and Stew to potter around and stop myself thinking about the afternoon, what was meant to be 'a little mooch' turned into a bit of a spree!

I don't normally post blogs of things I've bought very often as I don't think the things I buy re particularly interesting for other people? I'm not sure, I don't want my blog to become 'I bought this, and this and this and this and this..... and this and this' all the time? What do you think? Do you want to see more shopping trips/hauls/loots? Let me know!

Anyway.. I wanted a large barrel tong to curl my extensions with so I mooched into Argoos ;) I was going to buy the Babyliss glamour curler but with a 38mm barrel, it looked like it might be too big for my short little natural locks! So I went with the Babyliss Pro Curl 210, its got a 25mm barrel and different temperature settings, I'm going to review it on here after I've used it a few times :)

I also grabbed a Harajuku Lovers Perfume (my fourth!!) as I had a £5 off voucher for beauty and fragrance and you got a free beach towel with any purchase over £20! The summer fragrances were really lovely but I already have one and the 'original' ones were better value for money :)

^how cute is that towel!! I love it!
ps - sorry my flash bleached the box out, the perfume is 'music', I have two bottles of 'love' and a summer 'g' :)

Next up, H&M, I normally never ever go in but I wanted to have a look for a lace vest... No luck on the lace vest front but I did manage to get this amazing top:

For the FAB sum of £7.99! I think it will be perfect with jeggings (its quite long) and flats over summer, plus its ridiculously cute and is very 'me', it likes living in my wardrobe!

And these Harem pants!

They've been in fashion for years now and I've never felt confident enough about my body to wear them, but things have changed and this year I'm more confident, I fell in love with these as soon as I saw them and at £7.99 I couldn't turn them down!!

I also got a very simple black skirt for £2.99, to my absolute delight I only needed a Small!! Super chuffed about that! It looks lovely with any top so its an absolute bargain! I'm going back to get a grey one soon :)

Then I dashed into Primark and grabbed these pink flip-flops for £1, the black ones for £1.50 and finally a second pair of the black floral flats (I love my other ones so much I wanted a back up pair!!!) for £5 :)

Finally we ran into a Golf shop and grabbed balls (no pun intended :D), tee's, and a couple of golfing gloves for my Birthday Pub Golf Event on Saturday night!

Hope you've all had a lovely Tuesday!

Academy of Freelance Make-Up

Those of you who read my post yesterday will know that I wasn't particularly happy with AOFM... I was told my brushes wouldn't be with me until the end of next week!

However, they came in the post today!!!

As lovely as this is, i really wasn't happy with the way they were posted!

first of all my postman just rammed them through my letter box and didnt knock to get me to sign for them even though they had a recorded sticker on! I know this isnt AOFM's fault but it was a bit annoying!!

Furthermore they were simply posted in a jiffy bag, that had my address scribbled on it in permanent marker... this isn't the sort of packaging i expect when i have paid over £100!!!!

Also, they had only been posted first class and they had only paid £3.49...

I was charged £4.50 for postage and because the brushes are worth over £39 they should have been sent by special delivery or a courier!

I'm aware that most places make profits off of shipping prices but please don't rub it in my face! haha...

Overall i'm not particularly happy with the way they were sent to me, however i am chuffed that they got here in time for my photoshoot today and when i used them on the shoot they were absolutely amazing!!

Heres a quick snap i took at stupid-o-clock- this morning to show you the packing they were sent in and the gorgeous set themselves :)

^the lips are editted on to cover my addresss ;)

Would you be happy if you received them in this way?

A few smiles and sad faces!

Smiles:

*I'm doing a photoshoot tomorrow for a fashion design student, its 1940's themed and she emailled me the most beautiful moodboard, i'm so excited even if i do have to be up at about 7am :| bring on flawless skin, eyeliner, and red lips! plus feathery lashes and lace :D

This is just a tiny bit of the make-up i'll be taking with me tomorrow...

At the moment my whole make-up area is basically upside down and i'm halfway through packing up my traincase!!

*I'm not working tonight! YAY! i havent had a friday night off for absolutely months and its a good thing i do because i have such a long to-do list for tonight!

*My hair appears to be growing.... maybe... i don't want to jinx it!

*The sun has been out for a dew days! I don't like being ridiculously warm but i do like sunshine and green grass and warm evenings :)

*I ordered the AOFM pro brush set the other day! YUMMMM!

*Plan B. nuff said.

*I'm doing pub golf with all of my friends on the 24th as a belated birthday celebration! lotttts of drinky-pops!

*I realised today that i'm seeing pendulum in may, rage against the machine in june, and blink 182, pendulum, dizzee rascal and MANY others at reading festival in august!! the one thing that would improve this? linkin park, somewhere in the uk. please!!

*When i was sorting the house out yesterday i found part of one of stews New-Era hats that hes been looking for for WEEKS! i was well chuffed with myself!

Sad Faces:

*Preparing for the shoot tomorrow means that every single brush i own (bar a few that i wont take) had to be washed! Cue empty brush pots:

and me not being able to play with this beauty:

*A house party at my house a few weeks ago led to the desk chair in my room getting broken, and me having to place it with this random piece of crap that was floating around the house!!

not a happy bunny!!

*I ordered a top/dress from New Look online, i'm normally a size 12 but tried the 12 on and it was just a wee bit too tight so i ordered the size 14... it came today and looked really small when i took it out of its packet, after failing to even get it over my shoulders i got Verity to try it on (shes a size 6!! 8 in jumpers and cardis) and it only just fit her strange size 14 if you ask me!!

I'm going to phone them and have a moan because its clearly labelled wrong. At biggest it is a size 8.. my other housemate is a size 10 and it didn't fit her either! BOO for bad sizing!!

what things have led to you smiling or having a sad face recently?

Eyelash Extensions - the good, the bad, and the downright appalling!

Those of you who follow me on Twitter will know that I recently had eyelash extensions done... I'm going to try to keep this as short as possible because its a really long story! Basically I am absolutely appalled at the service i received and the vast problems i experienced with Staff, Hygiene, the quality of the lashes... etc...

The company in question is Benito Brow Bar. I went to the one in Derby.

^yes, i am naming and shaming the company involved. it may not be particularly nice, and you may be reading thinking 'why on earth would she be so negative?' but if you read on to discover what i went through, i'm sure you'll all agree that i'm doing the right thing by writing about this on my blog.

The good:
They looked great!

Before eyelash extensions:

After:

The Bad:
I had an eyelash tint on the thursday before i had the eyelash extensions done (i had the extensions done the following tuesday) and it was an awful experience! The woman got alcohol in my eyes, rubbed the tint off so hard it hurt, and afterwards i had really red, itchy sore eyes!

A few days after the tint i was booked in to have eyelash extensions done at the same brow bar, my eyes were still really red and itchy but i put it down to some sort of allergic reaction - how could it possibly be anything else? i had been to an established brow bar...

The actual application of the eyelashes was fine (even if the girl did make them really natural when i wanted Katie Price style MASSIVE ones!!) but my eyes progressively got worse throughout the day. I went to visit the doctor.....

The Appalling:
At the doctors i was told i had CONJUNCTIVITIS!!!!

Sorry..... I have WHAT!

I was prescribed antibiotic eyedrops (there is nothing i hate more than eyedrops) and told to treat the infection for five days. After spending a whole evening contacting friends and thinking about where i had been etc, myself and stew came to the conclusion that there was absolutely no way i could have caught the infection from anywhere apart from the brow bar!

It gets worse:
Today would have been 8 days since i had the eyelash extensions done, the promised lifespan is 6 to 8 weeks with regular rebalancing every 3 weeks... that means that most of the lashes should last at least three weeks. How many do i have left right now? none.

Thats right. none.

I have since emailled the brow bar a complaint detailing exactly when, who and where and i'm waiting for a response...

To sum up:
*i got dreadful customer service - was messed around and told i didnt have an appointment, after half an hour of talking to the girl she told me they had a new diary and it was confusing and i had been written on the wrong day, but she could 'squeeze me in'. She then called me back to tell me someone had phoned in sick so she might have to 'go and do some eyebrows' if anyone came to the brow bar during my treatment!!!!!!

*they infected me with an extremely contagious disease! showing that staff rarely, if ever, wash their hands and disinfect equipment!

*the lashes did not even last a week! before anyone comments on the infection and eye drops, i have gotten advice from another beauty therapist who does eyelash extensions and she has told me that the infection and eye drops should in no way affect the lifespan of the lashes!

A word of advice:
Do not go to Benito Brow Bar!
Staff are rude, unhygienic, disorganised and not trained properly!!

Hopefully this will save you all time, money and stress! Be sure to pass the word on to friends and family :)

What would you do if you were me? Demand your money back? Sue? haha! Help me out and tell me how you would deal with this situation!!

xo

ps - i'll be updating my blog letting you all know the responses i receive from their customer service department!!
